| | Skidboot was perhaps the smartest dog ever. He was man's best friend to blacksmith David Hartwig.
On Christmas Eve 1992 when Hartwig was shoeing horses for a nearby ranch. The ranch owner offered a present for his wife He had a stray dog with a batch of squirming, speckled pups. Mr. Hartwig came home with a male puppy and named him Skidboot. A skid boot is a hoof covering that protects horses' legs.
This video shows Skidboot and Hartwig performing the trick that made him famous.
