PREPARING

 There are a large number of families that are putting away food, learning skills that our fathers and grandfathers used to survive, and preparing for a disaster.

I wonder how many people would survive a disaster like the 1930's depression, a disaster like an eruption of the Yellowstone super volcano, or a terrorist attack.

Would you survive a solar or nuclear EMP (electro-magnetic pulse) that took away our electricity for a year or more.

I'll bet if you took a look at the food in your house, you would be scrounging for food in two weeks.

It makes a person think.

Hm, yes, I would definitely be one of the scrounging. I can hardly keep enough food for the week. But I do have laying hens.

Nice to meetcha.

@an_age_of_dreams -
Our neighborhood group has 15 pullets that are just beginning to lay. We're getting about 2 eggs a day now. When they're fully productive, we should get over 3,500 eggs per year.

I have guns, I hunt... I won't be hungry.  Don't need electricity, nor gas.  Have both a wood burning stove & a fire place.  I'm all good.   :)

@guypithecus - That's beautiful! I think once the system breaks, it won't matter what we have in terms of variety, so long as we have enough to barter. But it does pain me that I can't make every piece of produce I could ever need. (This summer was a bad one for the garden, of course...)
